Alternative Endings

Green Burial

Green or natural burials are for those who wish to minimize their environmental impact. This process uses biodegradable caskets or shrouds, and avoids embalming fluids, allowing the body to decompose naturally and return to the earth, enhancing the local ecosystem.

Water Cremation

Also known as alkaline hydrolysis or aquamation, this method uses water and alkaline chemicals to accelerate the natural breakdown of the body, producing a similar end result to flame cremation, but with significantly less environmental impact.

Home Funerals

In a home funeral, families take care of their own deceased loved ones at home. This can be a deeply personal and therapeutic experience, providing loved ones with a sense of closure and intimacy. Laws regarding home funerals vary by state, and we can help navigate the  legal aspects

Promession

An emerging alternative, promession involves freeze-drying the body in liquid nitrogen, which makes it brittle. The body is then vibrated until it breaks down into a powder, which is returned to the earth where it decomposes rapidly.

Reef Burials

In a reef burial, cremated remains are incorporated into an environmentally-safe concrete mixture used to create artificial reef formations. These "reef balls" are then placed in the ocean, providing a habitat for marine life.

Body Donation

This altruistic option allows for the donation of one's body to science, contributing to medical research and education. Upon completion of the research, the remains are typically cremated and returned to the family.

Tree Burials

Tree burial is a way to celebrate life through death. The cremated ashes of a loved one are used to nourish a young tree, creating a living legacy. This method is also available in the form of biodegradable urns designed to convert ashes into a nutrient source for a tree.
